Meet the newest members of the Amate House team, C

Meet the newest members of the Amate House team, Carrie & Yoli!

Carrie (she/her) graduated from Marquette University in 2019 with a bachelor's in finance and played on the soccer team. She then went on to play professionally in Spain for a year after graduation. Carrie is currently in graduate school at Loyola University Chicago, earning a dual master's degree in Social Work and Social Justice.

Yoli (they/them/elle) is a graduate student at Loyola University Chicago in their third year of studying social work. After undergrad, Yoli worked as a Jesuit Volunteer for three years, one in San Jose, CA, and two in Managua, Nicaragua. Yoli is also living in community this year at the St. Francis Catholic Worker House in Uptown.

Carrie and Yoli are serving as Program Associates and will oversee the day-to-day of our formation programming with our 2022-23 fellow cohort!

Our incoming fellows are set for food for week 1…3 carts full of groceries & some household items. Aldi was not prepared for the damage we did…yay for program staff…hustling to get things ready.

At the close of the service year, we bid a very fond farewell to our amazing Program Formation Coordinator, Katie!

Katie accompanied three different communities of fellows over the past few years, developed and grew stronger relationships with numerous site partner organizations, and improved vital elements of Amate House’s social justice and leadership programming. We are beyond grateful for her leadership and mentorship of our fellows, along with the countless ways she actively lives out the tenets of Amate House. Join us in celebrating her and wishing her well on her next chapter!

New Blog Post! During the Amate House "TEDx" style talks in May, Amate House fellow Eliza shared her story of learning the English language with the help of Mister Rodgers while unpacking the "Freddish" language's hidden lessons around better communication with others.

Each year at Amate Magic, we honor an alum of the program who has continued to live out the mission and tenets of Amate House long after their year of service, formation, and leadership development. Candidates are nominated by their peers in the fall; however, Claire Sloss was nominated back in 2019. We were so happy to finally honor her in person during Amate Magic on April 30th.

We were pleased to present the Founders' Award to Claire Sloss who continues to put “Love in Action” every day by living the Amate House tenets of community, social justice, and service. You can read Claire's remarks at the link in our bio!
