Meet the 2024-2025 Amate House Fellows

This year’s fellow cohort comes to us from 3 different states, 1 commonwealth, and 3 different universities. They join a network of over 950 Amate House alumni who have, for 40 years, answered the call to lead and serve here in Chicago.

Ava Carlson

Violence Prevention Educator

Ava is from Batavia, IL and is a graduate of Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska where she studied financial analytics and psychology. Ava serves at Sarah’s Inn as a violence prevention educator. She loves having brunch with friends, hiking, and discovering new music.

Erick Saucedo Estrada

Case Manager

Erick is from Chicago and is a graduate of Washington University where he studied economics. Erick serves at the Marjorie Kovler Center as a case manager. He loves music, practicing guitar, and exercising.

Liza Zaruba

Health Educator

Liza is from Columbus, Nebraska and is a graduate of Creighton University where she studied health administration and policy. Liza serves at the Erie Family Health Center as a health educator. She loves traveling, eating and rating ice cream, and hanging out in coffee shops.

Emma Johnson

Criminal Records Assistant

Emma is from Sioux Falls, South Dakota and is a graduate of Creighton University where she studied medical anthropology and legal studies. Emma serves at the Greater Chicago Legal Clinic as a criminal records assistant. She loves museums, thrifting, and reading.

Astrid Umanzor Andino

Immigration Attorney Assistant

Astrid is from Revere, Massachusetts and is a graduate of Boston College where she studied applied psychology and transformative educational studies. Astrid serves at the Greater Chicago Legal Clinic as an immigration attorney assistant. She loves running and dancing to salsa, bachata, and merengue music.
