Immersion Groups

Thank you for your interest in joining Amate House for your immersion trip! You'll experience what its like to be a fellow. We hope that your week with us will be a faith-filled, enriching experience. Here at Amate House we strive to ensure each group that would like to volunteer with us can do so during their desired time. To make sure this happens, we ask that you fill out a service agreement and send it back to Amate House as soon as possible. Please read below for more information on our guidelines and payment. For the 2018-19 school year we do not have room to host any more immersion groups. We would love to host your school in a future year. Please see below for more details on our immersions and reach out to our Program Formation Coordinator Dave Holmes at dholmes@amatehouse.org for more information on how to apply to be a part of the 2019-20 school year. 

Housing

Amate House has two fellow communities in Chicago, located in the neighborhoods of McKinley Park and Little Village. One of these communities lives in a former convent and one community lives in a converted two-flat.  The Amate House fellows live in a community based on the values of faith, service, community, social justice, and stewardship. Groups will stay in one of our fellow communities during their visit and are invited to engage with our communities by joining in reflections and sharing meals. You may also opt out of our community building activities should you prefer. Groups should bring sleeping bags, pillows and shower items.

Group Size

Our housing is limited to 12 people per group, including chaperones.

Food

Amate House will provide all meals for participants during their stay. A continental breakfast and food for bagged lunch will be made available. Dinner will be prepared by the Amate House fellows. Amate House fellows practice simple living; therefore, meals are simple, but sustainable. Please encourage your participants to experience living simply during their week of service.

Service

Amate House staff and fellows are willing to plan your service experience. Please let us know if you would like your trip to have a theme or focus.

Cost

The cost for our urban Immersion experience is $45 per person, per night. This price includes food, lodging and agenda. One third of your trip cost is due at the time you book your trip and will reserve your spot with us. The remainder of the cost will be due 10 weeks before your group arrives. If you plan your own services, the cost is $40 per night.
